This table is a collaboration between the artist and sculptor Neil Collins and myself.  We wanted to make something unusual and and I think we succeeded.  The table utilizes some very beautiful sheet metal that we found.  The metal has a pattern to it that is organic and slightly psychedelic.  Here is a close up photograph of what it looks like.

The shape that Neil formed with this metal has an oriental feeling to it that is complemented by the feet and legs of the table.  The decorative bands of pencil rod around the body add to this feeling.  The table base was custom made and inspired by the tile table top.  I used three different glazes for this tile.  The purple color is rough and tactile.  It goes well with the rusty, swirling colors of the base, and with the little bit of green paint that Neil left on part of the legs.

I like the way that the table base looks like a building, and that three of the tile have what could be doors or windows on them.  These two elements together suggest something a bit gothic so that I am reminded of oriental-style furniture that might have been found in a living room of a Victorian house at the turn of the 20th century.
