“The forms they made for you”

37”L X 19”W X 19”H

The tile for this table is a beautiful, luminous blue color on a cream background.  The green is actually made up of various shades.  These colors, in their airiness,  contrast with the table base which is extremely massive and heavy.  The legs of the table are real screw jacks, the purpose of which is to prop up buildings.  The base is ridiculously over built.  You could probably park your car on top of it .

I found this amusing and  I wanted to make tile that somehow commented on this attribute.  It reminds me of how we sometimes create emotional structures for reasons of safety and security; those structures are strong and sturdy and often quite beautiful, but they can become like prisons.  In the tile, the faces trapped under the surface of the two lovely blue pools reflect my feelings about the results of building such things.  I like that this piece is in a low table and that the viewer is always in a position of looking down to it.
